Founded in 2016, the Abbotsford Basketball Association is a not-for-profit basketball organization that focuses on making basketball available to everyone. Rather than offering low-level basketball at a low cost, we have invested time and resources to offer competitive, high-quality opportunities for all players in our community.
We are not just for low-income families or first-time players; we are for all players regardless of socio-economic status, ability, race, gender, or class. We strive to ensure that everyone who wishes to play can experience the numerous benefits of organized sports like cooperation, leadership skills, grit, conflict resolution skills, confidence, and friendship.
While we may be a basketball organization, our focus is developing players into healthy, courteous, and contributing citizens. They will not play basketball forever—in fact, very few will play at the university or professional level—but they will become adults in our community.
Basketball is a way for us to connect with players and teach them resilience, problem-solving skills, social/emotional regulation skills, and other life skills. We ensure that basketball is not the basis of their entire identity so that, if it is no longer part of their life, they still experience stability, a strong sense of self, and confidence in their other skills.
The Abbotsford Basketball Association strives to create quality basketball programs that are readily available to anyone in the community. We seek to make basketball as affordable, inclusive, and fun as possible by offering youth and adults opportunities for connection, physical literacy, and personal development. We hope to unite the basketball community under a shared love for the sport and encourage the advancement of the next generation of players.
